How to Validate a Startup Idea Before Writing Code
A step-by-step guide to validating your startup idea before investing time and money into building.
Step 1 — Map the market (foundation)
Understand who's competing, how they're positioned, and where the gaps are. Use our market research tools as the foundation. A market can be large and competitive and still lack the specific urgency that creates a buying customer.
Step 2 — Test behavior, not opinion
Run targeted outreach to real prospects. Track whether they click, reply, object, or buy. Behavior is the only validation signal that matters.
Step 3 — Triangulate signals into a Demand Score
Combine search intent, reply rates, landing-page engagement, and active community signals into a single Demand Score. Above 70 = Build. 40–70 = Pivot. Below 40 = Kill.
Step 4 — Continue learning
Validation isn't a one-shot event. Use ongoing validation tools to track signal drift over time.
